Breast Reduction

Monday, November 1st, 2010

This 53 year old patient from El Cajon, California had severe neck, back and shoulder pain, was unable to exercise, had poor posture and was taking Motrin and Ibuprofen on a daily basis to relieve her pain caused by her large breasts. The patient had undergone multiple therapeutic measures but was unable to relieve the pain and decided to look into breast reduction surgery. After extensive research she decided to proceed with surgery with Dr. Pousti.

As you can see in the picture above the patient suffered from sever grooving in the bra strap area due to heavy breasts (very common in most breast reduction candidates)

Risk, Complications and Post op care instructions are discussed prior to surgery along with location of the incisions and markings. The markings are discussed with the patient in a full-length mirror.

In this patient’s case she is getting a breast reduction along with a lift to raise the areola to a more pleasant position and give her more of a ‘perkier’ look.

In the photo above Dr. Pousti is explaining to the patient where the new location of the nipple/areola complex will be located after surgery.

During breast reduction cases and other more invasive surgeries lidocaine is injected into the incision sites. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic used to help coagulate the blood. This procedure can take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours depending on the complexity of the case.

The picture above shows the side by side comparison the the patients before (left breast) and after (right breast). As you can see the right breast is not only smaller but the breast tissue was also re-arranged to make the breast firm and perky.
